15.02.2021 • Launching the 2021 Consular training programme
On February 15 th , the Diplomatic School launched its annual “ Consular training ” programme. The lectures are delivered by respective officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other related government agencies. The training is specifically designed for diplomats and lasts one month. Welcoming remarks at the start of the training were delivered by the Director of the Diplomatic School, Ambassador Vahe Gabrielyan. 21.12.2020 • Completion of the “Mid-career training” programme 2020
On December 21st, the graduates of the Diplomatic School's three-month “Mid-career training” programme of 2020 received their graduation certificates. This programme of the Diplomatic School is designed for diplomats working at the MFA headquarter and officials from different public agencies responsible for external relations. Certificates were handed to the graduates by the Director of the Diplomatic School of Armenia, Ambassador Vahe Gabrielyan, who congratulated them and expressed confidence that the knowledge obtained during the programme will be useful in their daily activities and will contribute to their further professional achievements. A fruitful discussion took place between the participants of the programme and the staff of the Diplomatic School on the inclusion of subjects in the programme relating to the recent challenges and on the coverage of new topics.
14.09.2020 • Launching the 2020 mid-career training programme
On September 14 th, the Diplomatic School launched its 2020 programme for mid-career training of diplomats. The lectures are delivered by high-ranking diplomats from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , lecturers and trainers from Armenian and foreign educational institutions. The over two-month certificate programme includes lectures aimed at updating the diplomats’ knowledge of Armenia’s foreign policy agenda, as well as developing professional practical skills. The Diplomatic School of Armenia has published Negotiations in Multilateral Platforms, a book by Arman Khachatryan. The book examines issues related to conducting multilateral diplomacy, the main characteristics of multilateral platforms and multilateral negotiations, as well as strategies and tactics used in these frameworks. Negotiation roles and skills that could be useful within multilateral platforms are also discussed and the behavior of small states is especially highlighted in this context. Briefly reviewing theoretical discussions on international institutions, the author scrutinizes the settings of multilateral platforms that affect negotiations and final decision–making. As in multilateral negotiations states assume certain roles that can be changed, played again or struck out from the repertoire, the author uses the metaphor of a ship and navigation to figuratively describe the distribution of roles in a negotiation process. 13.03.2020 • The end of the Training Course for Journalists
On March 13 th , the Training Course for Journalists writing on foreign affairs-related topics ended at the Diplomatic School and certificates were awarded to the participants. The programme started on March 2 nd and was initiated by the Media and Public Diplomacy Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia and implemented with the support of the Diplomatic School. During the course, the heads of relevant departments of the MFA, as well as other employees delivered lectures on topics related to foreign policy. Certificates were handed to the participants and concluding remarks were delivered by the Director of the Diplomatic School of Armenia, Ambassador Vahe Gabrielyan and by the Head of the Media and Public Diplomacy Department, Serob Bejanyan. They congratulated the participants on the completion of the programme and expressed the hope that the knowledge obtained during the course would be useful in their professional achievements.
10.03.2020 • New books on Japan in the DS library
We are happy to announce, that in March, 2020 the library of the Diplomatic School of Armenia received a gift of over thirty new English-language titles related on Japan. The books, donated by the Japan Publishing Industry Foundation for Culture (JPIC) as part of its Japan Library project cover various aspects of Japanese life: history, foreign policy issues, philosophy, economy and different aspects of culture.
02.03.2020 • The Start of the Training Course for Journalists
On March 2 , a Training Course for Journalists specializing in foreign affairs-related topics started at the Diplomatic School. The training programme is organized by the Department of Media and Public Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia and implemented with the help of the Diplomatic School. 28.02.2020 • Meeting with the Ambassador of Russia in Armenia
On February 28 th Ambassador Vahe Gabrielyan, Director of the Diplomatic School of Armenia met with Sergey Kopirkin, Ambassador of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Armenia. Ambassador Kopirkin had a tour of the premises of the School, got acquainted with the exhibition dedicated to the 10 th anniversary of the establishment of the Diplomatic School, its daily activities, as well as its academic programmes. Perspectives of cooperation among the Diplomatic School of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Armenia, the Russian Center of Science and Culture in Yerevan and the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation were discussed.
27.02.2020 • Lecture on Economic Diplomacy
On February 27 th Mr. Wim Douw, Senior private sector specialist of the World Bank Group and Mr. Robert Whyte, WBG consultant delivered a lecture entitled « The Strategy, Goals and Actors of Economic Diplomacy» at the Diplomatic School of Armenia. The lecture was meant for employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia and the Diplomatic School , as well as for the representatives of the Investment Support Centre. The meeting was organized in partnership with the World Bank Group (WBG)/International Finance Corporation "Economic Growth" Project , which is implemented with the support of the UK Government. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the process of development of economic diplomacy, the preparation of the investment conference and the establishment of the institutional system of the Armenian Investment Support Centre. 15.01.2020 • Meeting with the Ambassador of Turkmenistan in Armenia
On January 15th Ambassador Vahe Gabrielyan, Director of the Diplomatic School of the MFA of Armenia met with Muhammetgeldy Ayazov, Ambassador of Turkmenistan in Armenia. Vahe Gabrielyan and Muhammetgeldy Ayazov discussed perspectives of cooperation within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding, signed between the Diplomatic School of the MFA of Armenia and the Institute of International Relations of the MFA of Turkmenistan. After the meeting Ambassador Ayazov had a short tour at the Diplomatic School and got acquainted with its daily activities.
