The study tour of the Mid-career training programme participants to Artsakh took place from November 20 to 24.

On November 20th, led by the Director of the School, Ambassador Vahe Gabrielyan, the diplomats visited one of the regiments of NKR Defense Army and got acquainted with the daily routine of the military. The diplomats also visited the border village of Talish, talked to the mayor, got briefed about the work and development plans in Talish.

The next day the participants of the study tour met with the officials holding the highest offices of power of the Republic of Artsakh. At the National Assembly, the diplomats met with Mr. Ashot Ghulyan, the Speaker of the National Assembly, who spoke about the programmes of international cooperation by Artsakh’s Legislature, as well as about achievements of Artsakh in political and diplomatic spheres. Mr. Ghulyan congratulated the Diplomatic School on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of its establishment and wished continuation of such study visits.

On the same day, the diplomats met with Grigory Martirosyan, the State Minister of the Republic of Artsakh. Mr. Martirosyan focused on the Government’s efforts in the development of different spheres of economy and briefed about the economic growth and investment programmes.

At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the diplomats met with Mr. Masis Mayilyan, the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Artsakh, who briefed the participants of the Mid-career training programme on the priorities of NKR foreign policy and the main tasks of the Ministry.

The diplomats were also received by the President of the Republic of Artsakh Bako Sahakyan. The President noted with satisfaction that study visits by students of the Diplomatic School to Artsakh, initiated by its Director, had become a commendable tradition and that such visits were important for diplomats. President Sahakyan touched upon the key issues of domestic and foreign policy and answered diplomats’ questions.

On November 22nd, the diplomats visited the Araks river valley, where agricultural and development important projects are in progress.

During the study trip the mid-career trainees visited the Museum of the Relatives of Soldiers of Artsakh War Missing in Action, the Museum of Perished Azatamartiks (Freedom Fighters) and the Artsakh State History and Geography Museum in Stepanakert and the Rehabilitation Center named after Caroline Cox.

They also visited Shushi Fine Arts Gallery, the Museum of History, the Museum of Geology, Amaras, Dadivank and Gandzasar Monastery complexes, the Ghazantshetsonts Cathedral in Shushi, the site of excavations of the ancient city of Tigranakert and its Museum.
